Become a Referee
We’re looking for motivated high school students (grades 9–12) to join our team as referees for Hingham Flag Football. This is a paid opportunity to gain leadership experience, build confidence, and stay involved in sports — all while making Saturday mornings fun for hundreds of young athletes.
We’re also introducing a new Junior Ref/Field Crew role for 8th graders interested in learning the ropes. Junior refs will assist with field setup, scorekeeping, and shadowing experienced officials to prepare for future referee positions. If you're ready to be part of something big, this is your chance to get in the game — literally.
Ages
Open to any Hingham MA, student grade 9-12
JR- Ref program open to any Hingham MA, Student in 8th Grade
When
Saturdays, September- November
8:30-6:30.
Schedules are made weekly to accommodate other activities. A minimum commitment is needed.

All games are held at Lynch Field in Hingham.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a Student at Hingham Schools?
No.. No matter where you study, as long as you are a Hingham resident, you are welcome to join the squad.
Do I need to have knowledge of flag football rules?
No... Flag Football is a straightforward game to learn, and we will provide you with a rule book and training to ensure success. You will be responsible to learn the rules prior to the season starting, but we will give you all the tools you need.
What if I can only work a few hours on Saturday? Can I still sign up?
Yes, The Schedule comes out weekly, and you can work with the head ref to align with their needs. Many refs only work a few hours on a Saturday.
What will a Jr Ref be doing?
Jr Ref will assist the Referees with field set up and break down, Uniform and equipment distribution, showdown referees during games, and helping coaches during games as needed.

Become a Referee This Fall!
We're looking for motivated high school students (grades 9–12) to join our team as referees for Hingham Flag Football.
This is a paid opportunity to gain leadership experience, build confidence, and stay involved in sports—all while making Saturday mornings fun for hundreds of young athletes. Whether you're a current or former athlete or simply enjoy working with kids, this is a great way to earn money while giving back to the community.
What You'll Do
* Officiate flag football games for youth players in grades K–8
* Help create a fun, safe, and positive game-day experience
* Learn the rules of flag football and apply them fairly
* Build leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
* Work alongside fellow high school referees and league staff
Requirements
* Current high school student (Grades 9–12)
* Reliable, responsible, and able to communicate confidently
* Enjoy working with children and being part of a team
* Attend the required referee training before the season begins
Availability Requirement (Please Read Carefully)
The Hingham Flag Football season runs for 10 Saturdays
Referees must be available to work at least 8 of the 10 Saturdays during the season and be able to commit to a minimum four-hour shift on the Saturdays they are scheduled.
Because our game schedule depends on reliable referee coverage, this availability requirement is mandatory, and exceptions cannot be made.
